Psychic shares 5 cleansing rituals to ‘protect your energy’

Mercury retrograde began on March 15 but its celestial influence will continue until April 7, 2025. Physic Lily, based at Physic Source, said: “Many people feel energetically drained or unsettled during Mercury retrograde. This period can amplify existing stressors, making it crucial to adopt practices that cleanse and protect our energy fields.”

In order to protect your energy field, one of the cleansing rituals worth doing is smudging with sage. The centuries-old ritual is thought to clear stagnant and negative energy, with Lily explaining that it’s a “powerful way to reset energy in your space”.

She elaborated: “As you move through each room, allow the smoke to reach every corner, and be intentional – envision negativity leaving as the smoke clears.”

A grounding exercise can also be helpful, where you reconnect with Mother Earth by spending time in nature.

Simply walking on the grass barefoot could “realign your energy with the Earth’s natural rhythm”.

Physic Lily said such a grounding technique could “bring a sense of calm when everything else feels chaotic”.

Any stress may also be relieved by taking a salt bath to help draw out negative energetic residue.

To have a salt bath, add Epsom salt or sea salt to a warm bath, which can really feel lovely and relaxing.

Then there’s crystal healing, where protective stones – such as tourmaline or amethyst – could deter negative energies away from you.

These crystals “act as a shield” and can be worn in jewellery, placed by the nightstand, or in pockets.

“Even a few minutes of mindful breathing each day can enhance your energetic boundaries,” said Lily, referring to a meditative practice.

“It helps you reset your mind and spirit, which is vital when Mercury is stirring the pot.”
