‘Masterpiece’ war film is now on Amazon and fans say ‘it’s never dull or boring’ | Films | Entertainment

Back in 1992, Daniel Day-Lewis starred in Michael Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans. Based on the 1826 novel of the same name, the historical epic is set in 1757 during the French and Indian War.

This was a theatre of the Seven Years’ War between the North American colonies of the British Empire and those of the French, with each side supported by Native American tribes.

Day-Lewis stars as Nathaniel “Hawkeye” Poe based on Natty Bumppo, the protagonist of James Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales, of which The Last of the Mohicans is the second of five novels.

The child of white parents, the fictional character grew up among Delaware Indians and became a fearless warrior.

The war classic certainly has its fans with comments on Google including: “I loved it!!! It never is dull or boring.”

One fan wrote: “I’ve seen a lot of films over my life and this is a masterpiece. This movie has the uncanny ability to completely immerse you. The cinematography, acting, and musical score are flawless and could not have been executed any better. It holds up amazingly well today. It’s hard to believe that the film was shot in ‘92 without any special effects or CGI and it’s all the better for it. I hate to sound cliché but they really don’t make films like this anymore and I doubt they ever will. This film gets a rare 10 from me and I’m highly critical when it comes to labelling a film perfect.”

The Last of the Mohicans is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
