A gardener has shared her go-to method of making your lawn look as good as it can without having to spend a fortune.
While most people starting their gardening hobbies might focus on growing flowers, fruits or vegetables, there’s a big part of your garden that often can get overlooked.
While it might not sound very interesting to take care of your lawn and growing grass, one gardener has shared her top tips on how to make your lawn look as good as possible without breaking the bank.
Sophie, better known online as ‘lookinsidemygarden’ has grown a following of thousands of people after taking to TikTok to share her advice for amateur gardeners wanting to make their gardens look nicer, including how to have a nice looking lawn.
“This is the cheapest way that you can transform your lawn just by doing four basic things,” Sophie said at the start of the video. She then jumped into her list, making sure to explain the steps she makes to make sure to have a perfectly green grass lawn.
1. Remove weeds
“First of all, you need to make sure that you remove the weeds,” she said. “Now, dig deep and get those roots because otherwise they’re just gonna come back.
“Don’t worry about the big holes, they will be filled in later on.”
2. Rake
“This is the bit that people often skip, but you must, must, must scarify that lawn,” she urged her viewers. “Rake out all the dead grass and thatch, you’ll be amazed at what comes out.”
3. Aerate
“Go on a nice low setting and then it’s time to aerate,” she said, showing how her partner Ben puts on his aeration shoes.
“Now Ben really likes these aeration shoes, some people say they’re rubbish, but they always work for us,” she said. “You can use a fork, but basically you want lots and lots of holes in your lawn.”
4. Top dress your seed
“And then this was just a good ol’ Wilco seed, any cheap seed will do,” she said as they make sure to spread the seeds across the whole lawn.
She then said: “And then you need a top dressing, again we just buy the cheapest top soil you can. And very quickly, you will see that the seeds germinate and you have a new lawn.”
“Now this is basic lawn care,” Sophie explained. “This is the cheapest way you can do it just by doing those steps, adding the seed and top dressing. And April is the perfect time to do it.”
