Since winning his libel case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has slowly returned to film acting and directing.
Last year, he starred as the King of France in Jeanne du Barry, before directing his new drama Modì.
But after a stint in European cinema, the Jack Sparrow star is now embarking on his Hollywood movie comeback.
Depp stars in Lionsgate’s upcoming action thriller Day Drinker alongside Penélope Cruz, who previously co-starred opposite him in Blow, Murder on the Orient Express and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
According to Variety, Madelyn Cline plays “a private-yacht bartender who encounters a mysterious, onboard guest (Depp). They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.”
Spider-Man and Snow White director Marc Webb, who is helming the project shooting in Spain, said: “I’m excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast. We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell. This is gonna be fun.”
Day Drinker’s release date is TBC, but we’d guess 2026.
