The wife of Weezer bass player Scott Shriner was shot by police in Los Angeles, then booked for attempted murder, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The incident began Tuesday at around 3:25 p.m. when California Highway Patrol called for backup in locating three hit-and-run suspects who had fled on foot into a residential area of the Eagle Rock neighborhood, the LAPD said in a press release.
The officers’ chase led them to the backyard of a house, where one of the suspects was last seen running. Moments later, a woman identified by police as 51-year-old Jillian Lauren was seen standing in the yard of her neighboring home armed with a gun.
According to the cops, they ordered Lauren “to drop the handgun numerous times,” but she repeatedly refused. She then allegedly “pointed the handgun at the officers,” prompting at least one cop to fire their weapon.
Lauren was struck by gunfire in the shoulder, according to KTLA. She then ran back inside her house and reemerged with her hands raised roughly 30 minutes later alongside her babysitter.
Lauren was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She was then booked for attempted murder and reportedly released from police custody.
No officers or other neighborhood residents were wounded in the incident, police said, and it’s unclear if Lauren fired any shots.
Following the shooting, she reportedly told authorities she was trying to defend herself and her family as the fleeing suspects attempted to break into her home, according to CBS News. Cops confirmed that she was not involved in the hit-and-run.
She and Shriner, who have been married since 2005, live in the home with their two sons.
Neither had publicly commented on the incident as of Wednesday night.
